TEACHER, AUTHOR, EDUblogger "I want to (read and) write books that unblock the traffic jam in everyone's mind." ~J. Updike
No matter what your viewpoint on the issue, Jefferson Bethke’s little YouTube pebble has stirred an overwhelming hurricane and has been viewed ( as of 5/27/13) 25,023,180 times since it was first uploaded some time last year.
What I personally found quite fascinating was the sheer number of venomous comments found below the video. Comments stemming from both sides of the divide! I pondered, what it is about this guy and what he is saying, that brought all these commentators to a boil? Perhaps, the real question would be, what was already simmering within them to make his words have such a violent effect.
Furthermore, what is it that has also spurred the hundreds of response videos that have been uploaded since. Responses coming from individuals of just about every walk of faith or worldview you can think of off the top of your head.
Jefferson himself did not expect the viral reaction that occurred. In the January 2012 article in the Christian Post, written by Erin Sun, Jefferson says, “If I can be brutally honest I didn’t think this video would get much over a couple thousand views maybe, and because of that, my points/theology wasn’t as air-tight as I would’ve liked.”

I invite you to view the video yourself below and let me know your reaction. Personally, one of the 396,896( and counting) “likes” came from me. 🙂

Reblogged this on Clay Tablets and commented:
I’m with this guy! I despise the religious charades that people put on to impress people. So many people are so offended by what they see in some ‘church people’ that they don’t even want to hear about Jesus. What a shame. Jesus spoke out strongly against the religious elite. It was the common man to whom he was drawn and who accepted him.
The religious elites called for his crucifixion.
Humble yourself and become as a child and you will be the greatest in the kingdom.
